Welcome To The World Of A Cycling Dad

From Gaming to Paintball to RC Driting to Golfing and finally to Cycling! Never did I thought that I would one day be hooked onto Cycling but here I am and there is no turining back! The roads maybe long, the climbs maybe steep and the downhills maybe deep... but as my RFC captain always says,

"As Long As The Mind Is Willing, The Body Will Follow!"

Ipoh Century 2010 - The Day Before

I was pacing up and down the house, thinking what else have I forgotten to pack along? It was 6am. While waiting for Ian, I decided to take a ride on my MTB around the taman. While riding I went thru all the things that I was bringing. It all seems there but there is this nagging feeling at the back of my head telling me there is something amiss. Ian reached at 6:30am and after loading his bike onto my car and parking his BRAND NEW HONDA CITY into my porch, we were off to Kah Lyn's place. He was our designated driver.

At GKL's house we unloaded our bikes and loaded it into his Exora. All 3 bikes fit standing with only the front wheel removed and could still sit 3 ppl with luggage comfortably. Amazing! Now we are on our way North - Ipoh!

Team RFC-MY was going to attend the 2010 Ipoh Century Ride held by KRI (Kelab Roadrunner Ipoh). It was a 160km ride which starts at 7am and you are supposed to complete it within 7.5hours. This round Team RFC-MY consists of Danny Chang, Yong Vun Hao, Helmi, Adam Ng, Aaron Yew, Khoo Chin Aik, Lay Jun An, Paul Lo, Ian Lim, Goh Kah Lyn, Patrick Yee, Lionel and myself.

We met up with Patrick Yee's vehicle along the highway. Paul and Adam was with him. Our 1st stop was to the Tower Regency Hotel to register ourselves, take the goodie bag and listen to the briefing. Now as with tradition, no RFC outing is complete without a slight detour. And so as not to break tradition, we mistakenly took the outer route which was a straight through bypass to Kuala Kangsar. All we could do was look left at the exit we were supposed to exit and also at the large cement road divider standing in our way. It was about a 25km detour - one way. But we finally managed to reach the Tower Regency on time. Adam and GKL was incharge of collecting the goodie bags and were quite 'Kan Cheong' about the whole process. Those below 40 were in Category A while those *ahem* above 40 were in Category B. After collecting all our stuff, we were quite hungry especially Paul. So we decided to go makan 1st instead of waiting 10mins for the 12pm briefing. We headed to Lou Wong for "Nga Choi Kai"... everybody wallop 2 portions. After finish eating, we went to ta pau 'Choung' and the stall owner treated us to some roasted petai which was heavenly!! We then met up with Danny and Yong who had just arrived at a coffee shop at Gunung Rapat. There, Ian and GKL had chicken rice!! and I ate my 'choung' which was super!! (looks like the 2 portions of nga choi kai was not enough) It was almost 2:30pm and we decided to head back to the hotel to attend the briefing. It was quite a short briefing which we really didn't need to listen. But there was a short commosion from the RFCs where the emcee said there there will be DONUTs at the rest stop. You could hear Adam's voice immediately saying "DONUT?" followed by the rest.. "NICE DONUT ARR?" "GOT CREAM WAN ARR?" LOL!!
By that time the whole group had arrived. We then proceeded to Giant to buy our provisions, breakfast and drinks for tomorrow's ride. We checked to our accomodations 'BUKIT KINDING RESORT' and it was quite a nice place... not too shabby except for the dead lizard in the room... Helmi was complaining "DAMN THEY HAVE A 9HOLE GOLF COURSE HERE!!" . After the tour around, while were offloading our bikes, Adam was trying to hit a golf ball with Helmi's left hand club but instead made a huge hole on the ground... LOL

Chalet 1 : Senandung Harapan Isabella : Adam, Yong, Jun An, Ian, Helmi
Chalet 2 : Senandung Batang Kali : Goh Kah Lyn, Lionel, Aaron, Khoo
Chalet 3 : Senandung Symphony Extra : Paul, Danny, Patrick and myself

After unloading the bikes into the room, checking out the views, finding a dead lizard in our room, seeing Adam cangkul tanah trying to his a golf ball and chit chatting, we had a short nap.

Then it was dinner time. We went to a nearby Malay Restaurant for round 1. Then round 2 was somewhere furhter into town for Claypot Chicken Rice. As I was too damn hungry already, I ordered braised pork rice instead followed by BBQ chicken wing. The rest had CCR!! Accross the street there was a singing competition for the older folks... way older folks...like those registered under category B...LOL

We retired back to the chalet and started to pack our stuff for tomorrow. Making sure that the tires were all inflated, PowerBars & Gel were taken and etc... then it was time to make music.. SNNNOOOOxxXXXxRrREEEeeeEE!!
